Joseph Eduardo Johnsis an American lawyer and journalist. He is the Senior Washington Correspondent forCNN,based in theWashington, D.C.,bureau. He was promoted to the position in 2014.[1][2]He previously worked as anNBC NewsCapitol HillCorrespondent forTODAYand otherNBCprograms.[2]He worked forWRC-TV(NBC-4) in Washington, D.C. He also worked as an anchor forWSAZ-TVin 1980.[3]
In an interview withCapitol Standardmagazine in 2016, Johns said of the lessons he's learned in media: "Be skeptical of hype. People who tell big lies don’t back down, even when confronted with the truth."[4]
Johns was a star discus thrower atWest High SchoolinColumbus, Ohio.[5]He was a four-year scholarship track and field athlete atMarshall University[6]and was inducted into the Marshall University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.[7]He holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Marshall University inHuntington, West Virginia,where he graduatedOmicron Delta Kappa,and aJ.D.degree fromAmerican Universityin D.C.[2]
Johns was married to formerMSNBCanalystMichelle Bernard;[8][9] the couple divorced in 2008.[citation needed]
