Joseph Elbert Stringfellow(March 10, 1918 – September 16, 1992) was anAmerican footballtailbackandbaseballcatcherandfirst baseman.In football, he played one season with theDetroit Lionsof theNational Football League(NFL) after being drafted in the twelfth round of the1942 NFL draft.He playedcollege footballatMississippi Southern College.[1]He also playedminor league baseballinClass A.[2]
DuringWorld War II,he served in theUnited States Army Air Forcesand played football for theservice teamatMaxwell Field.[3][4]He was also the baseball coach atGunter Fieldand Mississippi Southern.[5][6]In 1950, he was named deputy sheriff ofChatham County, Georgia.[7]
