John Arthur Heilemann(born January 23, 1966) is an American journalist and national affairs analyst forNBC NewsandMSNBC.[1]WithMark Halperin,he co-authoredGame Change(2010) andDouble Down(2013), books about presidential campaigning. Heilemann has formerly been a staff writer forNew York,Wired,[2]andThe Economist.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Heilemann was born inLos Angelesin 1966[4]and grew up inCanoga Park.His family was originally fromWisconsin.Heilemann earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and political science fromNorthwestern Universityand a Master of Public Policy degree from theHarvard Kennedy School.[3]
Career
[edit]He is the author ofPride Before the Fall(2001), a book about theMicrosoft antitrust case.He has been a staff writer forNew York,Wired,andThe Economist.He was the host of a four-part documentary series forDiscoverycalledDownload: the True Story of the Internet,about the rise of theWorld Wide Web,which first aired in 2008.
He is the co-author (withMark Halperin) ofGame Change(2010) andDouble Down(2013), books about Presidential campaigns. He and Halperin co-hostedWith All Due Respect(2014–2017), a political analysis show onBloomberg TelevisionandMSNBC.Heilemann also produced and co-starred (with Halperin andMark McKinnon) inShowtime'sThe Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth,following the presidential candidates behind the scenes of their campaigns in the2016 United States Presidential Election.Heilemann produces and co-stars in episodes ofThe Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth,withAlex WagnerandMark McKinnon,airing from 2016 to 2022. Heilemann is also an occasional guest onThe Tony Kornheiser Showand MSNBC'sDeadline: White HouseandMorning Joe.[5][6]
In 2019, Heilemann and John Battelle founded the Recount.[2][7]The Recount has a website with video, podcasts, and a newsletter.
Personal life
