Joseph Desanat was born in 1796 in Tarascon.[1][2]
Career[edit]
Desanat was first a courtier.[1]He then moved toMarseille,where he madecharcuterie.[1][2]

In 1841, Desanat foundedLou Bouil-Abaïsso,a literary journal of Provençal poetry published in Marseille.[3][4]The journal ran from 1841 to 1842, and from 1844 to 1846.[1]Desanat encouraged his friendJean-Baptiste Gautto submit poems, leading to a career as a poet and an advocacy of theFélibrigemovement.[5]
A prolific Provençal poet himself, Desanat's use of the language is remarkable as it predatesFrédéric Mistral's spelling rules.[1]

He died in 1873.[2]
Legacy[edit]
TheBoulevard Joseph Desanatin Tarascon was named in his honour.[1]
