Jovan "Jovo" Kapičić,born Jovan Kapa, (Cyrillic: Јован Јово Капичић); 2 September 1919 – 9 December 2013) was a YugoslavGeneraland post-war communist politician.[1]

He was awarded theOrder of the People's Heroon 10 July 1950.[1]

Early and personal life

Kapičić was born on 2 September 1919 in the Italian city ofGaetawhere theKingdom of Italyauthorities had set up a large base for the Italian-supported exiled soldiers of theRoyal Montenegrin Armyfollowing their unsuccessful 1919Christmas Uprisingagainst theKarađorđević dynasty.He was born with the surname Kapa, which he later changed to Kapičić. Jovo's father Milo Kapa was born in Ugnji nearCetinje,Montenegro, and he completed a theology degree. Later he was a theology professor and in 1918, he became akomitaand joined theMontenegrin Federalist Party.Along with Jovo, Milo had two more sons (Pavle and Vlado) and a daughter Anka. Jovo was also an Ambassador ofSocialist Federal Republic of YugoslaviainPeople's Republic of Hungaryin 1956 after theHungarian Revolution of 1956.Jovo joined theCommunist Party of Yugoslaviain 1936.

Jovo's sonDraganis a retired basketball player and his grandsonStefan Kapičićis an actor.[2]
