Julian Amos

Julian John Amos(born 1 October 1945,Melbourne)[1]was aLabor Partypolitician in theAustralianstate ofTasmaniaduring 1976-1986 and 1992-1996. He was a Government Minister with portfolios of Primary Industry, Energy and Forests during 1979-1982. He was first elected to theHobartbased seat ofDenisonin1976.He was defeated at the1986election. He stood again, successfully, at the1992 electionbut was defeated in1996.

At the1979 election,Amos was one of three candidates found to have exceeded their spending limits and the election was declared void.[2]At the subsequent1980 by-electionhe was re-elected.

Amos earned a PhD in botany from theUniversity of Tasmania.[3]

Amos has served on the board ofHydro Tasmania.[3]He is Chairman of theForest Industries Association of Tasmania,[4]a position he has held since 2006.[5]
