K. T. Mohammed(29 September 1927 – 25 March 2008), popularly known asKT,was aMalayalamplaywrightandscreenwriter.[2]He had scripted about 40 stage plays, includingIdhu Bhumiyanu(This is the Earth), considered to be his masterpiece. He had also written screenplay for about 20 films, includingKandam Becha Kottu,Thurakkatha Vathil,Moodupadam,andKadalpalam.[3]K. T. was a recipient ofSangeet Natak Akademi Award.[4]
Biography[edit]
K. T. was born inManjeriinMalappuram districtas the eldest son of a police constable [Number 353] called Kunjumuhammed and had very little formal education.[citation needed]After schooling he worked as a clerk in the postal department.[citation needed]
In 1952, he got the first prize in an all India short story contest for his storyKannukal(Eyes) which was later translated into many foreign languages.[citation needed]He was an active member of Brothers Music Club ofKozhikodewhich was the training ground of many famous artists.[2]He worked as the editor of Chithrakarthika weekly for a brief period of time. He startedSangamam Theatrea professional drama troupe which staged many of his famous plays both inside and outside the state. In 1971, he was nominated as the Chairman ofKerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademiand in 1974 as Chairman of Kerala State Film Development Corporation.[5]
He married actressZeenathand that relation ended in divorce.[1]The couple has a son Jithin.[citation needed]He died on 25 March 2008 atPavangad, Kozhikode.[2]
