Kenneth Todd Freeman(born July 9, 1965) is an American actor. He has been nominated for twoTony Awardsover the course of his career and has won oneDrama Desk Award.He has played supporting roles in films such asGrosse Pointe Blank(1997) andThe Cider House Rules(1999), played a prominent recurring role onBuffy the Vampire Slayer(1998–1999), and was a series regular onA Series of Unfortunate Events(2017–2019).
Life and career
[edit]Born inHouston, Texas,Freeman went to the localHigh School for the Performing and Visual Artsbefore later graduating from theUniversity of North Carolina School of the Artsin 1987.[1]
Freeman has been an ensemble member of theSteppenwolf Theatre CompanyinChicago, Illinoissince 1993.[2]In the same year, he was nominated for theTony Award for Best Actor in a Playfor his lead performance in theApartheiddramaThe Song of Jacob Zulu.[3]More recently, Freeman has played the role of Doctor Dillamond fromWickedin the first North American tour, Chicago and Broadway productions. In 2015, he was nominated for his second Tony Award, this time forBest Featured Actor in a Playas Sissy Na Na inAirline Highway.[4]He won theDrama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Playfor the same role.[5]
He has also had supporting roles in various films such asEraser(1996),Grosse Pointe Blank(1997),The Cider House Rules(1999), andThe Dark Knight(2008). On television, he earned a recurring role onBuffy the Vampire SlayerasMr. Trick.[6]
He performed in theSteppenwolf Theatre Company's production ofDownstate,which concluded its run on November 18, 2018.
He portrayedMr. Poein the 2017Netflixcomedy drama seriesA Series of Unfortunate Events.[7]
