KWST(1430AM) is acommercialradio stationlicensedtoEl Centro, California.[1]It is owned by El Sembrador Ministries, broadcasting to theImperial ValleyandMexicali,Baja California.

KWST is powered with 1,000wattsby day. But at night, it reduces power to 36 watts.[2]Thetransmitteris off Dogwood Road in El Centro.

KWST airs El Sembrador'sESNE RadioSpanish-language network. Programming is also heard on a five-wattFM translatorin El Centro, K229CU at 93.7MHz,which is owned directly by El Sembrador.[3]

History

The station firstsigned onthe air on June 1, 1958, as KAMP.[4]It was originally adaytimer,broadcasting at 1,000 watts but required tosign offat sunset to avoid interfering with other stations onAM 1430.KAMP was owned by the El Centro Radio Corporation and was one of the leading stations in the Imperial Valley for the next few decades. It carried, at various times, programming fromABC RadioandNBC Radio.It sometimes airedcountry musicand sometimes it had anoldiesformat.

The station changed itscall signfrom KAMP to the current KWST by theFederal Communications Commissionon March 15, 2001.[5]
