Kalpi(Citrus×webberii) is a naturalcitrus hybridnative toPhilippinesand is today one of the most common lemons inHawaii,and is sometimes called 'Malayan lemon'.[1][2]

Description

The handsome tree is medium-sized, 5 to 10 metres (16 to 33 ft) tall. The acidic fruit is very juicy; they are used like lemons. Size is variable, depressed and globose, with 9 to 11 segments and very thin skin, yellowish when ripe.[3]

'Kalpi' is apapeda.It looks somewhat like the common Philippinemandarin orangeand the nativeCitrus macroptera.

It is namedwebberiiafterHerbert John Webber,by his disciple, abbreviation authorPeter Jansen Wester.It has also been referred to incorrectly aswebberi.[4]The common name 'Kalpi' is from theBicolano dialect.[3]

It was published asCitrus webberiiWester in 1915 in Philipp. Agric. Rev. 1915, viii.[5]

Distribution

'Kalpi' grows inLuzonandMindanao,in the Philippines.[3]
