Kidar Nath Sahani(24 October 1926 – 3 October 2012) was a governor of the Indian states ofSikkim(2001–02) andGoa(2002–04). He was apracharakof theRashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) and a leader of theBharatiya Jana SanghandBharatiya Janata Party.

Early life and education[edit]

He lived inDelhi,though he was born inRawalpindi,British India,having migrated here following thePartition.He worked for the rights and rehabilitation of the refugees and a leading political figure in Delhi of the right wingJana Sangh party.[citation needed]

Career[edit]

Sahani had served as Mayor ofDelhiand Chief Executive of the Delhi Metropolitan Council. He was a swayamsewak of theRashtriya Swayamsevak Sanghand played a key role in the growth of the Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi. DuringEmergency,Sahani went underground and later escaped abroad from where he worked against the Indira Gandhi government. Post Emergency, he became a leading figure in Delhi municipal politics, going on to become Deputy Mayor, Mayor and Chairman of the Standing Committee of theMunicipal Corporation of Delhi.He also served as the President of the Delhi State Unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party.[1]

Kidar Nath Sahani served as Governor to thestates of SikkimandGoaduring theNDA regimebut was dismissed from office in 2004 after theUPA governmentwas formed on charges of misuse of office and because of his RSS background.[2]

Death[edit]

He died at the age of 85 at Delhi.[3]
