Kelly Kryczka(born July 8, 1961) is aCanadiancompetitor insynchronized swimming,world champion and Olympic medalist.

Career

Kelly Kryczka began synchronized swimming at the Calgary Glencoe Club and then moved on to train with the Calgary Aquabelles.[1]She andHelen Vanderburgearned gold in duet at the 1979 Canadian Aquatic Championships, a gold medal induetat the1979 Pan American GamesinSan Juan,[2]and gold at the Federation Internationale De Natation Amateur Cup in 1979.[3]Kryczka won the solo and duet events at the Canadian Aquatic Championships in 1980.[3]

AfterHelen Vanderburgretired in 1979 Kryczka paired withSharon Hambrook.They received a gold medal in duet at the1982 World Aquatics ChampionshipsinGuayaquil,where Kryczka also received a silver medal in solo and a gold medal in the team event.[4]

Kryczka won a silver medal in thewomen's duetwithSharon Hambrookat the1984 Summer OlympicsinLos Angeles,[5][6]the first year that the sport was recognized by the Olympics.[7]

Kelly Kryczka was inducted into theCanadian Olympic Hall of Famein 1996,[7]and theAlberta Sports Hall of Famein 1980.[8]

Family

Kryczka is the daughter of Alberta politicianKaren Kryczka,and the niece ofJoe Kryczka.[9][10][11]
