Kemal Yamak(1924, inMerzifon– 26 July 2009[1]) wasCommander of the Turkish Army(1987–1989). He was previously head of theSpecial Warfare Department(1971–1974).[2]
At the request of Yamak, GeneralSemih Sancar,then the Chief of General Staff, askedBülent Ecevitfor aslush fundof 1 milliondollarsto support theCounter-Guerrillaprogramme.[3]It was at that point Ecevit learned of its existence, and demanded a briefing.[4]
In 2006, he published a book defending the role of the Special Warfare Department, and rejecting many allegations about its links with the "deep state".[5]
