Kennedy Wailer SimonMNZM(born 1 October 1996) is a New Zealandrugby unionplayer. She is aloose forwardand plays for theBlack Fernsinternationally and was a member of their2021 Rugby World Cupchampion squad. She also plays forChiefs Manawain theSuper Rugby Aupikicompetition and represents Waikato provincially.

Rugby career[edit]

Simon made her provincial debut forWaikatoin 2013 againstOtago Spirit.She made her test debut for the New Zealand women's national side, theBlack Ferns,against theUnited Statesin 2019.[1][2]

2020–22[edit]

In 2020, she was awarded the international and Farah Palmer Cup player of the year by the New Zealand Rugby Players' Association at the New Zealand Rugby awards.[3][4]

Simon was part of the inauguralChiefs Manawaside that played in the first women'sSuper Rugbymatch in New Zealand atEden Parkin 2021.[5]

Simon was named in the Black Ferns squad for the August test series against theWallaroosfor the2022 Laurie O'Reilly Cup.[6][7]She made the Black Ferns 32-player squad for the2021 Rugby World Cup.[8][9]

2023[edit]

In 2023, She was selected as co-captain of theBlack Fernssquad, withRuahei Demant,for thePacific Four SeriesandO’Reilly Cup.[10][11]In July, she started in her sides 21–52 victory overCanadaat thePacific Four SeriesinOttawa.[12][13]

Honours and awards[edit]

In the2023 King's Birthday and Coronation Honours,Simon was appointed aMember of the New Zealand Order of Merit,for services to rugby.[14]
