Kerriodoxa elegans,thewhite backed palm,is the only species ofpalm treein the genusKerriodoxa,in the familyArecaceae.[1][2][3][4][5]

It is anendemic speciesofThailand,first discovered in the Khao Phra Thaew reserve on 11 March 1929 and described as a new genus and species in 1983.[6][7]It isdioecious,with separate male and female plants.[8]

The genus name ofKerriodoxais in honour ofArthur Francis George Kerr(1877–1942), an Irish medical doctor.[9]
