Kharamis aSouthern Nagalanguage of India. Peterson (2017)[2]classifies the closely relatedPurum language(and hence Kharam as well) as part of theNorthwesternbranch of Kuki-Chin. AccordingEthnologue,Kharam shares a high degree of mutual intelligibility withPurum. The speakers of this language useMeitei languageas theirsecond language(L2) according to theEthnologue.[3]

Kharam Naga is spoken in the following locations ofManipur(Ethnologue).

  • Senapati district:Purumlikli, Purumkhulen, Purumkhunou, Waicheiphai, and Moibunglikli villages
  • Chandel district:Lamlang Huipi, Chandanpokpi, Khongkhang Chothe, Loirang Talsi, Salemthar, Zat’lang, and New Wangparan villages
