Khurd and Kalan
KhurdandKalan(Urdu:خرد اور کلاں,Hindi:ख़ुर्द और कलाँ,Punjabi:Gurmukhi:ਖ਼ੁਰਦ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾਂ,shahmukhi:خرد تے کلاں) are administrative designations used inIndiaandPakistanto indicate the smaller (Khurd) and larger (Kalan) segments of a town, village or settlement. They are usually added after place names. For instance,Berote KhurdandBerote KalaninAbbottabad Districtin theKhyber-Pakhtunkhwaprovince,Dangoh KhurdinUna DistrictofHimachal Pradeshand the many villages in delhi such asHolambi KhurdandHolambi Kalan,Pooth KhurdandPooth Kalanand Mangolpur Khurd and Mangolpur Kalan in North west and north districts of Delhi and the famousDariba Kalanjewellery market inDelhi,there was also a smaller street nearby, known as Dariba Khurd or Chhota Dariba, both mean small, now known as Kinari Bazaar.[1][2]
In some parts of the formerMarathaterritory,Budrukis used instead of "Kalan." It is a corruption of the Persian word for "greater."[3]InManipur,Khullen and Khunou are used.
