TheKuria labeo(Labeo gonius) (Assamese:কুঁঢ়ি,romanized:kurhi,কুৰিহাkuriha;Bengali:ঘনিয়া,romanized:ghonia,গৈন্নাgôinna)[3]is a species of fish in thecarpfamily,Cyprinidae.[4]It is native toPakistan,India,Bangladesh,andBurma,and it is known fromAfghanistanandNepal.[4]

The fish has been known to reach 1.5 meters in length and weigh 1.4 kilograms.[4]It is afreshwater fishusually found in rivers,[4]and it is sometimes seen inpaddy fields.[1]Itspawnsduring themonsoonaround July and August.[1]

This fish is reared inaquaculture.[4]It can be reared with some other carps, but it tends to compete with certain species.[5]

The species is widespread and common in some areas, and it is not considered threatened on a large scale. It may face potential threats fromoverexploitationand degradation of its habitat.[1]
