Kyle Jarrow(born October 7, 1979) is a Los Angeles–based writer androckmusician.

Writing[edit]

Jarrow's writing career began in theater, winning an Obie Award with directorAlex Timbersin 2004 forA Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant,a satirical musical aboutL. Ron HubbardandScientology.[1]His theatrical writing has been noted for its macabre humor and frequent incorporation of pop music.[2]Early credits includeArmless,the basis for the film of the same name, andWhisper House,a musical written withDuncan Sheik.[3]As Jarrow's career progressed he became frustrated with the reach of theater and began writing for television and film as well.[1]

Jarrow's writing for television and film has frequently focused on existential questions of what to believe and how to live.[1]His first feature film was2010 Sundance Film Festival NEXTselectionArmless,a comedy about a man sufferingbody integrity identity disorder,starringDaniel LondonandJanel Moloney.[4]Armlesswas directed byHabib Azar,with whom Jarrow collaborated again in 2014 onSaint Janet,an independent film about a woman who believes she has spoken to God, starringKelly BishopandNyambi Nyambi.[5]

In 2012 Jarrow developed a police drama forFXproduced byPhilip Seymour Hoffman.[6]In 2013The CWannounced development ofZe,a family drama series written by Jarrow about atransgenderteen.Zewould have represented the first time a transgender person has been the lead character on a broadcast television show.[7]In 2016, Kyle createdLost Generation,a digital series with music byDuncan Sheikfor Verizon's go90 network. He is the creator and executive producer of the military drama TV seriesValorwhich premiered onThe CWnetwork in October 2017 and is now streaming on Netflix.[8]

Kyle wrote the book forSpongeBob SquarePants, The Broadway Musicalwhich opened at Broadway's Palace Theatre in December 2017.[9]He has been nominated for a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Association Award for his work on the show.[10]

Jarrow is singer, songwriter, and keyboardist for the theatrical rock bandSky-Pony,a collaboration with his wifeLauren Worsham.[11]He has previously performed with bands Super Mirage and The Fabulous Entourage, anart rockband featured in the 2006Whitney Biennial.

Personal life[edit]

Jarrow was born and raised inIthaca, New York.His father is economistRobert A. Jarrowand his mother, Gail Jarrow, writes children's books.[1]He studied Religious Studies and American Studies atYale University,moving to New York City upon graduation. Jarrow lives inLos Angeles, Californiawith his wife, actressLauren Worsham.In December 2015, Worsham and Jarrow announced they were expecting their first child, Oona.[12]In December 2019, the couple announced the arrival of their second daughter on Facebook.
