[edit]La Josie's is aMexicanrestaurant andtequilabarPike Street,onSeattle'sCapitol Hill.[1]Described as a sibling restaurant toFogón Cocina Mexicana,[1]the interior features anLGBT pride flag,pink neon signage, and aDay of the Dead-themed mural by Son Doung (also known as Son of a Gun).[2]The restaurant is gay-friendly and has erroneously been described asLGBT-owned,[3][4]according toSeattle Gay News.[2]KOMO-TVsays La Josie's "has a relaxed vibe much like its sibling and focuses on upscale casual Mexican dishes".[5]
Food options have includednachos,pozole,cookedprawns,bacon-wrappedshrimp, sopitos,tacos,taquitos,tortas,tortilla soup,tostadas, and chips and queso.[1][6][7]In addition to tequila, the drink menu has includeshorchataand cocktails such asmargaritas.[6]
History
[edit]In late 2019,Eater Seattledescribed plans for the team behind Fogón to open a sibling establishment.[8]La Josie's opened in July 2020, in the space previously occupied by Sun Liquor,[9]then East Trading Company.[1][2][10]The business is owned by Noel Cortez and Amparo Ambriz. According toSeattle Gay News,"the allyship demonstrated by this family-owned business is noteworthy". La Josie's has hosteddrag shows,participates in an annual fundraiser to raise money forHIV/AIDSservices, and displays LGBT pride flags all year long.[2]The restaurant has also been recognized as one of Seattle's Latino-[11]and women-owned establishments.[5][12]
