Lamont "MoMo" Jones(born June 26, 1990) is an American professional basketball player who last played forSemt77 Yalovasporof theTurkish Basketball First League.He was a standout college player forIona Collegeand was an honorable mentionAll-Americanand conference player of the year as a senior. He also played at theUniversity of Arizona.
Playing background[edit]
Jones, a 6'0 guard fromHarlem, New York,led prep powerhouseOak Hill Academyto a 41–1 record as a senior, averaging 21.3pointsand 8assists per game.[1]He signed originally with theUniversity of Southern California,but was released from his commitment when head coachTim Floydresigned.[2]He landed atArizonaand played two seasons for the Wildcats. The highlight of his time inTucsonwas scoring 16 points as Arizona upset top seeded defending championDukein the Sweet Sixteen of the2011 NCAA Tournament.[3]
Following the2010–11 season,Jones decided to transfer from Arizona toIona,a school closer to his home inNew York Citywhere his grandmother was ill. He was granted a waiver by theNational Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) and allowed to play immediately.[4]As a junior in2011–12,Jones teamed with seniorScott Machadoin the backcourt to lead the Gaels to the NCAA Tournament. Jones scored 15.7 points per game and was named second team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference(MAAC).[1]
As a senior, Jones was asked to take on more of the scoring load for the Gaels and responded by averaging 22.6 points per game, finishing third in scoring nationally. He led the Gaels back to the NCAA Tournament and at the end of the season was named theMAAC Player of the Yearand an honorable mention All-American by theAssociated Press.[5]
Professional career[edit]
Jones declared for the2013 NBA draft,but he went undrafted. Jones then signed with theKumamoto Voltersin the JapaneseNational Basketball League.
On July 28, 2017, he signed forMitteldeutscher BC.[6]Jones inked with anotherBasketball Bundesligateam,MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg,on July 12, 2018.[7]
On August 19, 2019, Jones signed withSkyliners Frankfurtof theBasketball Bundesliga.[8]
On November 5, 2020, Jones signed withSemt77 YalovasporofTurkish Basketball League.[9]
On July 22, 2022, he has signed withMitteldeutscher BCof the GermanBasketball Bundesligafor a second stint.[10]
On November 9, 2022, he signed with and returned toSemt77 Yalovasporof theTurkish Basketball First League.[11]
