Las Herasis a city in theprovinceofMendoza,Argentina, located in the north of themetropolitan areaof the provincial capital (GreaterMendoza). It has more than 180,000 inhabitants as per the 2001census[INDEC]and is the head town of the department of the same name.
The city is immediately next toMendoza City,going north down San Martín Avenue. The area includes the low mountain range of El Challao, home tohot springs.
The name of the city is an homage to GeneralJuan Gregorio de las Heras,hero of theArgentine War of Independence.
Las Heras was heavily damaged in the1927 Mendoza earthquake.[1]
