Leonard Peters(born December 26, 1981) is anAmerican footballsafetyand arugbyplayer. He was originally signed by theNew York Jetsas anundrafted free agentin 2007 and was on theChicago Bearspractice squad. He playedcollegiatelyatHawaii.Peters performed as a Polynesian dancer in his native Hawai'i, which includes twirling flaming knives.[1]He has also represented theUSA Tomahawksinrugby league.[2]

American Football Career[edit]

College[edit]

Peters played in 50 games for theUniversity of Hawaiʻiat safety, making 290 tackles, defending 20 passes, recording 7 interceptions and two sacks.

Professional[edit]

Peters was signed to theChicago Bearspractice squad on October 3, 2007.[3]He was released by the Bears on August 30, 2008.[4]

Move to Rugby union[edit]

Peters has decided to move torugby union,a sport from which American football is derived. He was selected for theUS 7'sfor the2009 World Gamesin Taiwan.[5]He showed well enough in the2009 World Gamesto have been selected to theUSA Squadfor the first two legs of the 2009-10IRB Sevens World Seriesto compete in Dubai and George, South Africa.[6]He has been able to turn his success at sevens into a selection to theUnited States National Rugby Union Teamfor the 2010Churchill Cup.
