Ligusticum striatum(syn.L. wallichii) is aflowering plantnative toIndia,Kashmir,andNepal[2]in thecarrot familybest known for its use intraditional Chinese medicinewhere it is considered one of the50 fundamental herbs.[3]It is known by the common nameSzechuan Lovage.It contains thephytoprogestogens3,8-dihydrodiligustilideandriligustilide.[4]

Along withLigusticum wallichii,L. striatumis one of the possible herbs used to make the Chinese Traditional MedicineChuānxiōng(Chinese:Xuyên khung)

It is used in China, with portions of other plants and herbs (such asmonkshoodandRosa banksiae) to make alinimentto treat a painful swelling of the joints.[5]

It can be used to treat ischemic strokes, improve brain microcirculation and inhibit thrombus formation and platelet aggregation.[6]
