Lisalais the capital of theMongala Provincein northwesternDemocratic Republic of the Congo.
TheCongo Riverflows through the city. Its Cathédrale Saint-Hermès is the cathedral episcopal see of theRoman Catholic Diocese of Lisala.It is the birthplace of presidentMobutu Sese Seko,who ruled Congo (which he renamedZaire) from 1965 to 1997.
