Early life and education[edit]
Cho grew up inConcord, Massachusetts,and has a younger brother, Andrew.[1]She was born to Sang In Cho (d. March 13, 2009),[2]aKorean Americansurgeon,[1]and aJewish-Americannurse,[1]Donna Cho (née Weltman).[2][3]Her father, born and raised inSouth Korea,immigrated to the United States to practice medicine and was a liver and kidney transplant surgeon who headed the team that did the first liver transplant inBoston.[4]He died fromcolon canceron March 13, 2009.[2][5]Liz Cho attendedBoston University,majoring in journalism and history.[6]
Career[edit]
Her first professional work in journalism was as an assignment editor atNew England Cable NewsinNewton, Massachusetts.[6]Cho was next a reporter atWPLGinMiami, Floridabefore moving to ABC News as a Chicago-based correspondent forABC NewsOne,the network's affiliate news service. She later co-anchored ABC's overnight news program,World News Now,withDerek McGinty.During this time, she also served as a correspondent and fill-in anchor forGood Morning America.[6]
Cho started at WABC-TV on July 7, 2003, replacingDiana Williamsat 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.[6]In 2011, Cho began anchoring the station's new "First at 4:00" newscast, withDavid Novarro,filling the hour left vacant by the departure ofThe Oprah Winfrey Show.[7]In addition, as of 2012, she continues to anchor the 6 p.m. broadcasts withBill Ritter.[6]
Personal life[edit]
She and husband Evan Gottlieb had daughter Louisa Simone Gottlieb on May 17, 2007, inNew York City.[8]
Cho filed for divorce from Gottlieb in 2012.[citation needed]In August 2014, Cho became engaged to journalistJosh Elliott.[9][10][11]On July 11, 2015, she married Elliott inMontecito, California.[12]
