Lloyd Phillips(14 December 1949 inCape Town– 25 January 2013 inLos Angeles) was a South African-born New Zealandfilm producer.In 1980, he produced the movieThe Dollar Bottom.The film received anAcademy Award for Best Live Action Short Filmin 1981, making Phillips the first New Zealander to win anAcademy Awardin any category.[1]

Phillips was anexecutive produceron films such asInglourious Basterds,The Tourist,andMan of Steel.[1]His commercially most successful films had beenMan of Steelwhich grossed US$649 million,[2]Inglourious Basterdswhich grossed US$321 million[3]andThe Touristwhich grossed US$278 million worldwide.[4]Phillips died of a heart attack on 25 January 2013 inMalibu, California,at the age of 63.[5][6]A message reading 'In Memory Of Lloyd Phillips 1949–2013' appears during the ending credits ofMan of Steel.

Phillips' widow, film producerBeau St. Clair,died on January 9, 2016.[1]
