Loknath Sharma(c. 1971) is aBhutanesepolitician who has beenMinister for Economic Affairssince November 2018.[2]He has been a member of theNational Assembly of Bhutan,since October 2018.[3]

Early life and education[edit]

Sharma was born onc. 1971.[1][4]

He received aBachelor of Sciencedegree fromSherubtse College,Bhutan and aMaster of Artsin Economics degree fromUniversity of Allahabad,India.[5]He completed his Advance Diploma in Community Services from theCanberra Institute of Technology,Australia.[1]

Professional career[edit]

Before joining politics, he was served as Community service worker, Economics consultant and Transport management specialist.[1]

Political career[edit]

Sharma is a member theDruk Nyamrup Tshogpa(DNT).[1]He participated in the2013 Bhutanese National Assembly election.[6]He was elected to theNational Assembly of Bhutanin the2018 electionsfor the Dophuchen-Tading constituency.[7]He received 5,069 votes and defeatedThakur Singh Powdyel.[8]On 3 November,Lotay Tsheringformally announced his cabinet structure and Sharma was named asMinister for Economic Affairs.[9]On 7 November 2018, he was sworn in as Minister for Economic Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Lotay Tshering.[2][10]
