Lygumaiis a small town inPakruojis District Municipality,Šiauliai County,northern-centralLithuania.As of 2011 it had a population of 601.[1]It is the administrative center of theLygumai elderate .
History[edit]
In 15th century the Lygumai estate of theGrand Duke of Lithuaniawas mentioned.[2]
Within thePolish-Lithuanian Commonwealththe place was also known under the Polonized nameLigumy.It is known that the place was given byStanisław II Augustto a royal geometer (surveyor) Czapski for the general survey ofroyal table estates and later changed owners several times.[3]
In the beginning of August 1941, during theGerman occupation of Lithuania,the Jews of the village, about 70-80 men and over 100 women and children were assassinated. The mass execution was perpetrated by GermanEinsatzgruppenand local collaborators.[4]

Attractions[edit]
The present building of theLygumai parish Holy Trinity Church was constructed during 1902-1915. It is listed amongthe tallest buildings of Lithuania.Its exact height was measured in 2016 and found to be 73.84 meters, including the 3-meter top cross.[5]
