Mackenzie Mgbako(born November 18, 2004) is a Nigerian-Americancollege basketballplayer for theIndiana Hoosiersof theBig Ten Conference.He was a consensus five-starrecruitand one of the top players in the 2023 class.
Early life and high school career
[edit]Mgbako grew up inGladstone, New Jerseyand initially attendedGill St. Bernard's School.[1]He averaged 19.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists as a junior.[2]Mgbako transferred toRoselle Catholic High Schoolbefore his senior season.[3]Mgbako was selected to play in the2023 McDonald's All-American Boys Gameduring his senior year.[4][5]He averaged 16.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over 16 games during the season and missed one month due to an ankle injury.[6]
Recruiting
[edit]Mgbako was a consensus five-starrecruitand one of the top players in the 2023 class, according to major recruiting services.[7]He initially committed to playing college basketball forDukeduring his junior year after considering offers fromKentucky,Ohio State,andMemphis.[8]Mgbako decommitted from Duke late into his senior season.[9]After being granted a release from hisNational Letter of Intentfrom Duke, he committed to playing college basketball forIndianaafter also consideringKansas.[10][11]
