Marcel Otte(born 5 October 1948) is a professor ofPrehistoryat theUniversité de Liège,Belgium.[1]He is a specialist inReligion,Arts,Sociobiology,and theUpper Palaeolithictimes ofEuropeandCentral Asia.[2]In the bookSpeaking Australopithecus(written together with the philologistFrancesco Benozzo) he argues from the archaeological point of view Benozzo's hypothesis that human language appeared with Australopithecus, between 4 and 3 million years ago.[3]
Otte is one of the only advocates of thePaleolithic continuity theory,which states thatIndo-European languagesoriginated in Europe and have existed there sincePaleolithictimes.[4]He first advocated that theory in work published in 1995.[5]
