Marcus Wayne Buckley(born February 3, 1971) is an American former professionalfootballplayer who was alinebackerfor seven seasons in theNational Football League(NFL) during the 1990s. He playedcollege footballfor theTexas A&M Aggies,earningunanimous All-Americanhonors in 1992. He played his entire pro career for theNew York Giants.
Early life
[edit]Buckley was born inFort Worth, Texas.[1]He graduated fromEastern Hills High Schoolin Fort Worth,[2]where he played for the Eastern Hills Highlandershigh school footballteam.
College career
[edit]Buckley accepted anathletic scholarshipto attend Texas A&M University, and played for theTexas A&M Aggies footballteam from 1989 to 1992. He was recognized as aunanimous All-Americanat linebacker in 1992.
Professional career
[edit]The New York Giants picked Buckley in the third round, 66th pick overall, of the1993 NFL draft.[3]He played for the Giants from1993to1999.[4]In seven NFL seasons, he played in 101 regular season games for the Giants, started 25 of them, and compiled 137 tackles.[4]He was on theAtlanta Falcons2000 roster, but played no games.[5]
On January 25, 2018, after an investigation by the FBI for ties to a $1.5 millioninsurance fraudscheme, Buckley was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison.[6]On April 10, 2013, he was indicted and charged with insurance fraud along with a co-conspirator, Kimberly Jones.[7]The charges allege that Buckley made falseworkers compensationclaims related to stress-related injuries from playing football.[8]
