Marenisco Townshipis acivil townshipofGogebic Countyin theU.S. stateofMichigan.The population was 455 at the2020 census,a significant decrease from 1,727 at the2010 census.

Theunincorporated communityofMareniscois within the township on thePresque Isle Rivernear the junction ofU.S. Highway 2andM-64at46°22′35″N89°41′47″W/ 46.37639°N 89.69639°W/46.37639; -89.69639.[3]Wakefieldis about 15 miles (24 km) northwest, andWatersmeetabout 27 miles (43 km) southeast on US 2.

The name was formed by combining the first three letters from Mary Enid Scott, the wife of E. H. Scott, a timber producer[4]

Geography

According to theUnited States Census Bureau,the township has a total area of 325.9 square miles (844 km2), of which 310.9 square miles (805 km2) is land and 15.0 square miles (38.9 km2or 4.61%) is water. It is the second-largest township in land area in Michigan (afterMcMillan TownshipinLuce County).

As of thecensus[1]of 2000, there were 1,051 people, 264 households, and 186 families residing in the township. In 2020, there were 455 people in the township.
