Maria Balinska(born 1960) is an American journalist and author who is the Executive Director of theUS-UK Fulbright Commission.[2]

Born inNew Jersey,US, Balinska joined the Fulbright Commission after serving as part of the launch team forThe Conversation,later the Managing Editor and subsequently Editor-in-Chief.[3]

Balinska attended 10 schools in five countries before attendingPrinceton University.According to her, she became interested in journalism after the fall ofCommunism,reporting on the transformation of Poland as a freelance journalist.[4]She spent a decade as a radio producer and then Editor World Current Affairs atBBC.[5][6]In 2010 she was aNieman Fellow.[7]

In 2011, she foundedLatitude News.[1][8]In 2008 she publishedThe Bagel,which presents a history of thebagel,tracing its roots from ancient Rome to Poland to its flourishing in America.[9][10][11]
