Mark Blicavs(/ˈblɪtsɑːvz/BLIT-sahvz;[1]born 28 March 1991) is a professionalAustralian rules footballerfor theGeelong Football Clubin theAustralian Football League(AFL). He made his debut for the club in round one of the2013 AFL season.
Early life[edit]
Blicavs' parents were both born overseas – his father was born inNew ZealandtoLatvianparents, and his mother was born on the isle ofJersey.[2]Both of his parents represented Australia at basketball. His fatherAndris Blicavsplayed at the1976 Montreal Olympicsand his motherKaren Ogdenwas a member of the team that competed at the 1983 World Championships. His brother Kris has played basketball in theSouth East Australian Basketball League(SEABL) and his sisterSara Blicavsplayed in theWomen's National Basketball League(WNBL).[3]
Prior to being recruited by Geelong, Blicavs was a middle-distance runner and steeplechaser, who attempted to qualify for the2012 Summer Olympics.
Football career[edit]
He made his debut in Round 1,2013,againstHawthornat theMelbourne Cricket Ground.[4]In 2015, Blicavs won theCarji Greeves Medalas Geelong's best and fairest player.[5]
