Mark Suciu(pronounced Soo-Choo) (Born August 3, 1992) is anAmericanprofessionalskateboarderfromSaratoga, CA,based out ofNew York City.In 2021, Suciu was namedThrasher'sSkater of the Year.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

Early life and education

Mark Suciu was born on August 3, 1992, and grew up less than an hour south fromSan FranciscoinSaratoga,California.Suciu has a brother and their father is fromRomania.His father attendedThe University of California, Berkeleywhere he graduated with aPh.D.inEngineering.After graduating high school, Suciu was skating full time until he sustained an ankle injury. After a period of time, Suciu felt that he was burned out from skateboarding and wanted to explore other facets of life. Suciu decided to attendTemple Universitywhere he studiedCreative WritingandLiterature.[9]After two years of living in Philadelphia, Suciu moved to New York City to attendThe New School.[10]

Skateboarding career

Suciu started skateboarding when he was six years old. He found inspiration through watching theX Gameson TV, seeing local kids skating, and from his cousin who lives inDoylestown,Pennsylvania.Every summer, Suciu would visit his cousin inPennsylvaniawhere he was able to skate frequently inPhiladelphiaandLove Park.His first real skateboard was aPowell PeraltaBlue & Golden DragonSteve Caballerodeck. Suciu used to compete in theeSGame of Skate contests frequently.[11]
