History
[edit]Initially Mattighofen belonged to thestem duchyofBavaria,that became a part ofFrancia.In 757 aKaiserpfalz(palace) of the rulingCarolingian dynastywas documented here. On theFrankfurtsynod of 1007Emperor Henry IIgranted the Mattighofen estates to the newly createdBishopric of Bamberg.It was acquired by theHouse of Wittelsbachin the 16th century and affected by theWar of the Bavarian Successionafter which it passed to theArchduchy of Austriaaccording to the 1779Treaty of Teschen.Mattighofen receivedtown privilegesin 1986.
Economy
[edit]Mattighofen is the headquarters of theKTMbrand, which produces Automobiles, Motorcycles and bicycles, andHusqvarna Motorcycles,a Swedish-origin company designs which also engineers, manufactures and distributesmotocross,enduro,supermotoand street motorcycles.
