Moihi Te Mātorohanga

Moihi Te Mātorohanga,also known asMoihi(orMohi)Torohanga,(diedc. 1876) was a New ZealandMāoritohungaand historian of the Ngāti Moe subtribe ofNgāti Kahungunuin theWairarapa.From some time after 1936 he lived atTe Whiti pā,and was regarded as the authority on genealogies (whakapapa) at Te Poho-o-Hinepae, awhare wānanga'school of learning' nearGladstone.Among those who studied under Te Mātorohanga wasHoani Te Whatahoro Jury,who would transcribe many Ngāti Kahungunu traditions and genealogies.[1]

He was born inTe Ewe-o-Tiina,Wairarapa and, as well as Ngāti Moe, he was related to the tribes:Ngāi Tahuof Wairarapa, Ngāi Tūkoko, Ngāti Kahukura-awhitia and Ngāti Kaumoana.[1]
