Mona Kosar Abdi(born May 13, 1991) is an American multimedia journalist. She graduated from theUniversity of California, San Diegowhere she earned aBAinInternational Studies,Political Science,andCommunications.

In January 2019 she joined ABC News and in 2020 became anchor forWorld News Now.

Early life and career

Abdi is of Somali descent. She began her journalism career atKGTV Channel 10,an ABC-affiliated television station based inSan Diego.She started as an assignment editor and was promoted to an associate producer news writer.

Abdi was a contributing writer at theAl Jazeera Media Networkin 2013.

She moved toLynchburg, Virginia,in January 2014 and joinedWSET ABC 13,theABCtelevision network affiliate for theRoanoke/Lynchburg, Virginia,market.[1]She was a reporter.

In January 2017 she moved toCleveland, Ohio,[2]where she was an anchor/reporter on ABC affiliateWEWSChannel 5.

Since January 2019 she has been a correspondent forABC Newsbased in New York.[3]

Abdi anchors the overnight/early morningWorld News NowandAmerica This Morningwith Kenneth Moton. She was officially hired to replace Janai Norman, who began working as aGood Morning Americacorrespondent, in September 2020.[4]On August 22, 2022, Abdi announced her departure fromWorld News Nowand became a correspondent forWorld News Tonight.[5]
