Monageer(Irish:Móin na gCaor),[1]orMonagear,is a small village situated in the centre ofCounty Wexford,inIreland.It is located a few kilometres roughly northeast ofEnniscorthytown.

Monageer village contains a shop, a pub, a primary school, and aRoman Catholicchurch (with adjoining cemetery).[2]It also contains the local GAA club Monageer Boolavogue which was founded in 1886. An award-winning sensory path and grotto walk was opened in 2018.[citation needed]

People[edit]

Peter Dalywas an Irish Socialist and Republican who fought in theIrish War of Independenceas well as serving as a volunteer in theSpanish Civil War,where he died serving with theInternational Brigades.Born inLiverpoolin 1903, his family returned to Monageer at the end of 1911.[3]There is a memorial in Monageer commemorating his life and struggle.[4]
