History

Monea Castle is situated where a Maguire castle would have been based prior to thePlantationand a crannog is still visible. Building began in 1616. It had abawnbuilt later, in 1622. It was attacked byRory Maguireduring theIrish Rebellion of 1641when the castle was sheltering Protestant settlers.
