Mount Huntingtonis a mountain in theJohn Muir Wildernessnorth ofKings Canyon National Park.It is one of four peaks that surroundPioneer Basin,5 miles (8.0 km) northwest ofMount Crocker,2 miles (3.2 km) northeast ofMount Hopkins,and 1.8 miles (2.9 km) south-southwest ofMount Stanford.[2]The mountain was named forCollis Potter Huntington,one of the builders of theCentral Pacific Railroad.[4]
Climate[edit]
According to theKöppen climate classificationsystem, Mount Huntington is located in analpine climatezone.[5]Mostweather frontsoriginate in thePacific Ocean,and travel east toward the Sierra Nevada mountains. As fronts approach, they are forced upward by the peaks (orographic lift), causing them to drop their moisture in the form of rain orsnowfallonto the range.
