NGC 2227is abarred spiralgalaxywith a morphological type of SB(rs)c[5]located in the direction of theCanis Majorconstellation.It was discovered on January 27, 1835, byJohn Herschel.[6]

In 1986, atype Ia supernovawith anapparent magnitudeof 14.0 was detected within NGC 2227, and was designatedSN 1986O.[7]
