NGC 2227is abarred spiral galaxywith a morphological type of SB(rs)c^[5]located in the direction of theCanis Major constellation.It was discovered on January 27, 1835, byJohn Herschel.^[6]

In 1986, atype Ia supernovawith anapparent magnitudeof 14.0 was detected within NGC 2227, and was designatedSN 1986O.^[7]
