NGC 2998is abarred spiral galaxylocated in the constellationUrsa Major.[5]It is 195 million light-years (59.7megaparsecs) away from the Earth.[3]It is anintermediate spiral galaxy.[5]Its stellar mass is about that of theMilky Way.[6]

NGC 2998 is a member of the eponymous NGC 2998 group, a relatively dense galaxy group which also includesNGC 3002,NGC 3005,NGC 3006,NGC 3008and a few others.[7][6]
