NGC 5026is abarred spiral galaxyorlenticular galaxyin the constellation ofCentaurus.[2]It was discovered on 5 June 1834 byJohn Herschel.[5]It was described as "pretty bright, pretty large, round, gradually brighter middle" byJohn Louis Emil Dreyer,the compiler of theNew General Catalogue.[5]
