NGC 5161is aspiral galaxyin theconstellationCentaurus.John Herscheldiscovered it on 3 June 1836.
Twosupernovaehave been observed in NGC 5161: SN 1974B (type unknown, mag. 14.5),[2]and SN 1998E (type IIn,mag. 16.5).[3]
