NGC 7499is anunbarredlenticulargalaxy[3]within theconstellationPisces.NGC 7499 is itsNew General Cataloguedesignation. It was discovered on September 2, 1864 by the astronomerAlbert Marth.[5]

On 7 December 1986, asupernovawas discovered within NGC 7499 and was subsequently designated SN 1986M (type Ib,mag. 16.5).[6][7]
