Nansi District[1][2][3][4][5](Chinese:Nam tâyKhu;Hanyu Pinyin:Nánxī Qū;Tongyong Pinyin:Nánsi Cyu;Wade–Giles:Nan2-hsi1Ch'ü1;Pe̍h-ōe-jī:Lâm-se-khu), alternatively spelledNanxi,is a ruraldistrictof about 8,951 residents inTainan,Taiwan.
Name[edit]
Nansi (Nam tây) was so named because it is west of theCishan River(Qishan). The 'nan' (Nam) in 'Nansi' is an abbreviation for Nanzixian River (Nam tử tiên khê), an alternate name for Cishan River. The 'si' (Tây) means 'west'. This name originated in the period ofTaiwan under Japanese rule.[6]
History[edit]
After thehandover of Taiwan from Japanto theRepublic of Chinain 1945, Nansi was organized as arural townshipofTainan County.On 25 December 2010, Tainan County was merged with Tainan City and Nansi was upgraded to adistrictof thecity.
Geography[edit]
Nansi District bordersNanhua Districtto the east;Yujing Districtto the south;Dongshan District,Lioujia District,andDanei Districtto the west; andDapu, Chiayito the north.[6]
Administrative divisions[edit]
The district consists of Nanxi, Wanqiu, Miqi, Zhaoxing, Lutian, Guidan and Tungshi Village.
