Nathan Rossis an American film and televisionproducer.

Personal life[edit]

Ross grew up in Northbrook, Il and graduated fromGlenbrook North High School.[1]He is anIndiana UniversityandUniversity of Illinois Chicago - School of Lawgraduate.[2]

Prior to becoming a producer, he was an agent atICM Partnersfrom 2003 to 2010, primarily representing directors and screenwriters for film.[2][3][4][5]

He was profiled byThe Hollywood Reporterin November 2008 in their "Next Gen 35 Under 35", which recognizes entertainment executives in their yearly issue.[5][6]

Mr. Ross is on the board for the Palm Springs International Film Festival/Society.[7]

Film production[edit]

Ross was anexecutive produceronDallas Buyers Club(starringMatthew McConaugheyandJared Leto,both of whom won Academy Awards for their performances[8][9]) alongside his directing partner,Jean-Marc Vallée.[9][10]It was released byFocus Featureson November 1, 2013, and won threeAcademy Awards,and was nominated for six in total (includingBest Picture).[citation needed]

He was also executive producer onWild,directed by Vallée forFox Searchlight,starringReese WitherspoonandLaura Dern,both of whom were nominated for Academy Awards. The film was released on December 3, 2014.[11][12]

Ross' most recent film release wasDemolition,which Vallée also directed, and starredJake Gyllenhaal,Naomi Watts,andChris Cooper,for Fox Searchlight. It was released April 8, 2016 and won the "Headliners Audience Award" at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival.[13][14]

Ross was developing the story ofJohn LennonandYoko OnoforUniversal Pictures.[15]“Its the first time Yoko is allowing her story to be told,” and “We wanted to bring the right type of intimacy to the storytelling,” Ross toldRolling Stonein an interview for the August 2019 issue.[16]

Television[edit]

Ross is an Executive Producer on the HBO series,Big Little Lies,an adaptation ofLiane Moriarty's 2014 darkly comic novel about three mothers of kindergartners, starringNicole KidmanandReese Witherspoon.[17]The show premiered in February 2017. It won 8 Emmys at the 69th Annual Emmy Awards, includingOutstanding Limited Series,with 16 overall nominations.At the 75th Annual Golden Globes, Big Little Lies won 4, includingBest Limited Series or TV Movie,out of 6 nominations. The second season aired in 2018 withMeryl Streepadded to the cast.[18][19][20][21][22]

Ross is also an Executive Producer alongsideJean-Marc Valleeon an adaptation ofGillian Flynn's debut thriller novelSharp Objects.[23]The limited series starsAmy Adams,Patricia Clarkson,andChris Messina.[24][25]

Among its accolades, Clarkson won theGolden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Filmand Adams received a nomination for theGolden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film.It also received eight nominations at the71st Primetime Emmy Awards,includingOutstanding Limited Seriesand acting nominations for Adams and Clarkson.

Ross executive producedThe Lady In the Lakefor Apple. This straight-to-series limited mystery stars Academy Award winnersNatalie Portmanand Emmy NominatedMoses Ingram- and is directed byAlma Har’el.Fifth Season is the studio.[26]

Production Company[edit]

Ross is a co-founder of Crazyrose, a film and television production and financing company, founded with Jean-MarcValléein partnership with Bloom and Endeavor Content.[27]In 2021, the company signed a first look deal with HBO and HBO Max.[28]

The duo commented "We are honored to formalize our long and fruitful relationship with HBO and to begin a new one with HBO Max. “We are grateful to Casey, Frannie, and Sarah for their continued partnership and look forward to supporting and promoting storytellers we admire in this next stage for Crazyrose.” The company will also continue its relationship with Endeavor Content by extending its first look film and forming a second look television deal with them.[29]
