Nazlat 'Isa(Arabic:نزلة عيسى) is aPalestinianvillage in theTulkarm Governoratein the westernWest Bank,located 17 kilometres (11 mi) North ofTulkarm.

History

Ceramics from theByzantineera have been found here, as havecisternsand tombs.[3]

In 1882, thePEF'sSurvey of Western Palestinedescribed the village, then namedNuzlet el Masfyas: "A small village on the low hills, withwells."[4]

British Mandate era

In the1922 census of Palestineconducted by theBritish Mandate authorities,Nazlet Esahad a population of 203Muslims,[5]increasing in the1931 censusto 261 Muslims, living in 62 houses.[6]

In the1945 statisticsthe population ofNazlat Isawas 380 Muslims,[7]with 2,030dunamsof land according to an official land and population survey.[8]Of this, 684 dunams were for plantations and irrigable land, 750 were used for cereals,[9]while 12 dunams were built-up (urban) land.[10]

Jordanian era

In the wake of the1948 Arab–Israeli War,and after the1949 Armistice Agreements,Nazlat 'Isa came underJordanianrule.

In 1961, the population ofNazlet 'Isewas 627.[11]

Post 1967

Since theSix-Day Warin 1967, Nazlat 'Isa has been underIsraeli occupation.

In 2003, during theSecond Intifada,over 60 shops were destroyed by Israeli civil administrationbulldozers.The Israeli civil administration claimed that the shops weredemolishedbecause they were built without a permit. Palestinians consider Israeli military curfews and property destruction to constitutecollective punishmentagainst innocent Palestinians.[12][13][14]

According to thePalestinian Central Bureau of Statistics,Nazlat 'Isa had a population of approximately 2,502 inhabitants in mid-year 2006 and 2,302 inhabitants by 2017.[1][15]8.7% of the population of Nazlat 'Isa were refugees in 1997.[16]The healthcare facilities for Nazlat 'Isa are designated as MOH level 2.[17]
